Lake Huron 

 

New Presque Isle Lighthouse

Presque Isle, MI

Built in 1870, this lighthouse replaced the Old Presque Lighthouse.  

This is the tallest lighthouse on the Great Lakes and is still in service.

Old Presque Isle Lighthouse

Presque Isle, MI

Built in 1840, this lighthouse was decommissioned in 1870.

Middle Island Light

Middle Island, MI (North of Alpena)

Built in 1905, this lighthouse has been abandoned for years.

Sturgeon Point Light

Alcona County, MI 

Built in 1869, this lighthouse has is still in operation. 

The house also serves as a museum.

Tawas Point Light

Tawas Point State Park, MI 

Built in 1852, this lighthouse had to be moved in 1876 because

the land it sits on had moved more than a mile due to shifting sands. 

The lighthouse is still in operation and is cared for by the US Coast Guard.

Fourteen Foot Shoal Light

Cheboygan, MI

Built in 1930, this light was originally radio controlled 

by personnel stationed at the nearby Poe Reef Light.

Forty Mile Point Light

Presque Isle County, MI

Built in 1897, this lighthouse is still in use today.

Poe Reef  Light

Cheboygan, MI

Built in 1929, this lighthouse replaced a series of 

lightships that had warned of the dangerous 

reef since 1893.

Old Cheboygan Lighthouse Ruins

Cheboygan, MI

This lighthouse was originally built on unsafe ground and had to be abandoned in 

the 1920s.  Vandals damaged it to the point where it had to be torn down.
